AlpsTastic - Fantastic Alps guided motorcycle tour

Germany – Austria – Italy – France - Switzerland
There are many motorcycle tours through the Alps. This one has it all!

Our ' AlpsTastic' tour is a true 'must' for every rider who likes endless curves, excellent asphalt and stunning nature. Ride the same roads that were described as 'greatest driving road in the world' (Passo Stelvio, Italy- Top Gear), that were used for legendary movie scenes (Furka pass, Switzerland- James Bond 'Goldfinger') and are a lifetime inspiration for every rider that comes across. From Grossglockner in Austria to Col d l'Iseran in France, from 'Gelato' and 'Cappuccino' in Italian Dolomites to Bratwurst in Germany, we will see, ride and feel the best motorcycle roads in Europe.

The tour starts/ends in Munich, Germany- which is an excellent starting/ending point for many reasons: as we all know Munich is also called 'the home of Bayerische Motoren Werke', or shorter, 'The Home of BMW'. Arrive a day or two earlier/stay a day or two longer and visit famous 'BMW Welt', 'BMW Museum' and 'BMW Plant', enjoy a local 'weissbeer' in one of numerous 'beer gardens' while having enough time to rest from jet lag.

This tour is always scheduled to start on first Sunday in July (arrival day), day after the biggest BMW Motorrad party in the world- BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can arrive few days earlier, have fun on many test rides, meet BMW clubs and organizations, or pick up some of the BMW accessories you maybe need- and get ready for 15 days of superb riding and great fun!

Munich has one of the biggest and busiest European airports (MUN) so you can fly in directly from almost any location in the world.

Arrival day (Germany)

1. Arrival day (Germany)

Your guide will welcome you at the airport in Munich and the transfer to our first hotel will be organized. Depending on the arrival time, you can do some sightseeing after hotel check-in. Enjoy a local 'weissbeer', try typical 'bratwurst', visit one of numerous city museums or of course- BMW Welt or BMW Museum. In the evening we will meet over the traditional welcome dinner and we can discuss about the routes, bikes, itinerary etc.

Munchen – Zell am See (Germany – Austria)

2. Munchen – Zell am See (Germany – Austria)

After breakfast, we will all meet for our first daily briefing. We will talk about cornering, riding techniques, speed etc. and prepare you for safe and enjoyable rides. We will visit the highest European waterfalls (and fifth in the world) with their impressive drop of 380m/1247ft! After the waterfalls, we can take a cable car up to 3.029m/ 9.938ft high Panorama platform called 'Top of Salzburg'. For the ones wanting to ride more, there will be an option to visit famous 'Eagle's Nest' ('Kehlsteinhaus' in German), the building given to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday as a teahouse for diplomats. It remained unscathed after WWII and since 1952 it has been open to the public as a mountain top restaurant with a truly spectacular view. In the evening, we will all enjoy in traditional Austrian food like 'Wiener schnitzel', 'Apfelstrudel' etc. Of course, after great riding, 'weissbeer' is more than welcome.

Zell Am See – Dolomites (Austria – Italy)

3. Zell Am See – Dolomites (Austria – Italy)

Get ready for Grossglockner High Alpine Road! We will ride through the 'Hohe Tauern' National Park, 48 kilometers of spectacular alpine riding, reach the highest elevation of 2.504m/8.215 ft and enjoy a stunning view of the highest Austrian peak (3,798m/12.461ft) and its glacier, the Pasterze. We will leave Austria in the early afternoon and end the day in Italy, the Dolomites. One cappuccino please!

Dolomites rest day (Italy)

4. Dolomites rest day (Italy)

Rest day in the heart of Dolomites. Who would resist a ride when surrounded by so many beautiful mountain passes? As always, we will schedule a group ride and happily show you the best of Dolomites. If someone will want to ride on its own, we will be more than happy to set up a custom itinerary for the day. Venice is 200km/125mi away so having a cappuccino in St. Mark’s square is also an option. Many walking/trekking paths and ski lifts will be opened, so a walk in the mountains is also possible. SPA area in our hotel is something to have in mind too.

Dolomites – Bormio (Italy)

5. Dolomites – Bormio (Italy)

Today we will reach THE mountain pass in Italy- Passo Stelvio and its 2.758m/9.048 ft highest point. Riding up, after first 48 switchbacks, a traditional sausage stop- on the top! Woohoo, we made it! Time for pictures, souvenirs, patches and stickers. From this point, we will be declining through 37 switchbacks on the south side of Stelvio, making our way towards Bormio, our destination for the day. There, we will decide whether to continue riding and ‘do’ Passo Gavia- another beautiful, yet less commercialized mountain pass in Italy. Different from Passo Stelvio, the road gets very narrow, traffic is low and you will soon realize why everyone calls it ‘the wild side of the Dolomites’.

Bormio – Andermatt

6. Bormio – Andermatt

As a great add on to the previous day, our tour continues through some famous, and also some less known mountain passes today. Morning coffee will be possible in Livigno, Italian tax-free paradise. If you're looking to buy a camera or a new memory card, this is the right place! St. Moritz, one of the oldest ski resorts in Switzerland will follow. Our base for next two nights is Andermatt- the best possible location for Alpine riding in Switzerland!

Rest day Andermatt (Switzerland)

7. Rest day Andermatt (Switzerland)

Although it's a rest day, trust us- you want to go riding today! We are literally in the heart of Swiss Alpine roads; and there are several outstanding passes just waiting for us. Furka pass, Grimsel pass and Susten pass are just one after another; and for those wanting to ride more, there's fantastic Klausen pass just nearby! We'll be happy to organize a group ride or create custom itineraries according to your preferences for the day.

Andermatt – Chamonix

8. Andermatt – Chamonix

Two amazing attractions are on our list for today. First, a visit to Zermatt, small town known for the best view of Matterhorn- the world's most photographed mountain and a symbol of Switzerland. Often called ‘the mountain of mountains’, its triangular dramatic looking top at 4.478m/14.690ft has been a desire of many climbers all the way since 1865. The sight will leave no one indifferent. After we reach our hotel in Chamonix Mont Blanc, we recommend a gondola trip to Aiguille du Midi at 3842m/12.605ft; literally breathtaking view of the Alps from ‘Step into the Void’ glass cage platform over a 1000m/3280ft precipice! Now that’s amazing.

Chamonix – Briancon

9. Chamonix – Briancon

From Chamonix and beautiful views of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain of Western Europe, we will continue south. Scenery is now completely different compared to the Dolomites just few days back, but the riding is still top-notch! Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier and Col du Lautaret are all on our way to Briancon, our two nights stay with UNESCO World Heritage status.

Briancon rest day

10. Briancon rest day

Briancon is a fortified town, surrounded by alpine mountains, often stated as ‘the highest city in Europe’. On our rest day, you may choose between walking around its center and enjoying in charming narrow streets and French atmosphere, sleeping in late and actually resting, or joining us for a ride. Several options are available, including a ride to the highest paved road in the Alps (Col de la Bonette at 2862m/9389ft) and a bit longer ride to jaw-dropping Vercors mountain range west from Briancon. Gorges there are amazing.

Briancon – Aosta (France – Italy)

11. Briancon – Aosta (France – Italy)

Again, a phenomenal day for riding! We will conquer the highest paved mountain pass in the Alps-'THE' Col de l'Iseran at its 2.770m/9.087ft! Souvenirs, badges and stickers are a 'must' here! After a stunning view of famous French ski resort Val d'Isère, we will again enter Italy over a spectacular Petit Saint Bernard Pass at 2.188m/7.179ft. We will end the day in Aosta, charming place in the heart of Aosta Valley.

Aosta – Interlaken

12. Aosta – Interlaken

For breakfast, we will 'have' Grand Saint Bernard Pass at 2.473m/8.114ft and soon, Switzerland will again welcome us with famous 'cheese fondue' around noon, just in time for a quick bite! Col du Croix and Col du Pillon will lead us to Interlaken, our destination for the day. Settled between two lakes (Lake Thus and Lake Brienz) and between three mighty mountains (Jungfrau, Eiger and Moench) Interlaken well deserves its titles of most enchanting city in the Alps.

Interlaken – Silvretta Strasse

13. Interlaken – Silvretta Strasse

After having breakfast in Switzerland, we'll have lunch in Liechtenstein and dinner in Austria. How does that sound? We'll answer the question 'how many Liechtenstein can fit into one US? ' over lunch in Vaduz, the capital of this small, but beautiful and charming country. As we're slowly getting away from the Alps, there's no better way to say goodbye than ride the famous 'Silvretta Strasse' and enjoy in all that we mastered in last couple of weeks- cornering and hairpins.

Silvretta Strasse – Munchen

14. Silvretta Strasse – Munchen

Today we need to reach Munich again, switching the curves and hairpins for a few flat miles of Bavaria. We will even have the chance to try famous German 'Autobahn'- one of few public roads in the world without a speed limit for motorcycles and cars. But before Munchen- one last stop- Neuschwanstein Castle, better known as 'the castle that inspired Walt Disney- Cinderella castle'. There are many tales about it and we'll for sure share some with you; while having an optional walk inside beautiful halls and rooms. In the afternoon, we'll arrive to Munich again- no tears please! Time for our special farewell dinner- talks, weissbeer and great Bavarian food. What a great way to finish this amazing adventure!

Flight home

15. Flight home

Depending on the departure time, we'll maybe have more time to spend, so there will be several choices. Of course, your transfers to the airport will be arranged. We really hope you enjoyed the trip, wish you a good flight and of course- see you again!
