Albania vs Montenegro: amazing off-road motorcycle tour in Balkans

Intense adventure motorcycle tour that takes you on top of the most beautiful mountains in the Balkans. Albania and Montenegro will show you the best of what untouched nature has to offer.

In total of 12 days (10 adventure riding days), we will push our own limits many times; as well as our bike’s. Mix of demanding gravel, dirt, forest paths, technical switchbacks and rocky ascents/descents will be served to us daily; with occasional asphalt excursions that will bring us back ‘off the track’, or as we say ‘Off The Radar’. Approximately 60% of the riding time will be on tough off-road sections, connected by paved backroads where off-road will no longer be possible. Certain riding days could end up very long due to unpredictable terrain, possible flat tire situation(s) etc. So be ready for a real adventure here.

This guided off-road motorcycle tour starts/ends in the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia (Airport: DBV). Dubrovnik is easily reachable, less then an hour away from Montenegrin border and ideal if arriving with a travel partner who doesn’t ride. Area is rich of history and culture, beautiful cycling/running paths and scenic beaches; so surely there will be enough options.

Difficulty / required riding skills: Albania vs Montenegro tour is suitable only for experienced off-road riders*. As we ride big BMW adventure motorcycles (F700GS – F800GS – R1200GS), handling the bikes in tight hairpins on loose ground, dirt and rugged mountains etc. will be our daily routine. If you did some of BMW Motorrad off-road trainings (or any other adventure training on 800+cc bike), this tour is suitable for ’Experts’ e.g. riders with highest level of off-road skills.

For competitive adventure riders or clubs, there is an option to participate in one of region’s biggest Enduro events during the tour. More information available on request.

Day by day

Arrival day

1. Arrival day

Your guide will welcome you at the airport and transfers to our first hotel will be organized. After settling, you will be able to test-ride and adjust your bike. In the evening, we will all meet for our traditional welcome dinner, talk about the route, gear and preparation for our first day’s ride.
For riders arriving few days early, we suggest exploring famous Dubrovnik Old Town- stone walls and streets, marble-paved squares and Dalmatin's charisma is something you won't miss.

Exploring wild Montenegro

2-4 Exploring wild Montenegro

Next three days we will spend in Montenegro. The adventure riding part starts as soon as we reach the city of Niksic. Surrounded with stunning landscape, sets a great base for further exploring. We will ride through breathtaking Durmitor National Park, visit Zabljak- famous Montenegrin ski resort and through National Park Biogradska gora, continue towards the border with Albania. There are no big cities here, just unspoiled nature, a few shepherd’s villages and hundreds of cattle.

Adventure riding in Albania

5-9 Adventure riding in Albania

From Montenegro, this adventure tour will take us to Albania, another gem for off-road riding in the Balkans. Theth Valley National Park is one of the highlights in the Albanian Alps, which are often called ‘Accursed Mountains’. Getting there is a challenge for all riders; but scenery makes it all worth while. Valbona is next on our list of visited National Parks in the north of Albania; before we make our way through Kosovo back to Montenegro.

Montenegrin coast and back to Dubrovnik

10-11 Montenegrin coast and back to Dubrovnik

There is no better way of reaching the coast, than riding along Komovi mountain range in Montenegro. Once again, our skills end endurance will be tested through rugged mountains and rocky paths on the way to Podgorica, capital of Montenegro. Dubrovnik is already very close, but before the end, magnificent views of the Bay of Kotor will make our day. After reaching our hotel in Dubrovnik, we’ll head to our ‘farewell dinner’ which will be our last gathering on this amazing adventure. Many miles and many conquered challenges will be behind us, so a proper ‘Živjeli’ (Eng. ‘cheers’) is the way to go!
