Sunset motorcycle tour in Croatia

This motorcycle tour is all about Croatia. You will get to know its history, culture and enjoy riding along the Adriatic coast enjoying beautiful sunsets.

With over 1000 miles of spectacular coastal roads, Croatia is also very much known as a land of over 1000 islands. Each region enjoys its own charm, has its own seafood specialties and is recognizable by different, top quality wines, so be sure you will have an amazing time!

The roads are just spectacular and we'll be riding in a mix of back-roads, coastal roads along the Adriatic sea, narrow mountain roads as well as some challenging hairpins on few of the islands. As it should, this motorcycle tour of Croatia will stop in the city of Dubrovnik, will pass by amazing, Europe's most beautiful National Park 'Plitvice Lakes', and will curve along charming 'Croatian Tuscany' called Istria peninsula. We will visit many highlights as well as hidden spots only locals know about, will have time for a swim or two and we will explain you all about complex history that's been going on here since... well, 125 000 BC! We will make it short, don't worry.

Sunset tour starts and finishes in Zagreb, capital of Croatia (Airport: ZAG). As always, we recommend arriving a few days early, which leaves you enough time to get used to Croatian time zone and relax from jet-lag.

In our garage, we have a fleet of BMW GS motorcycles which we consider perfect for the 'job'. They offer a lot of torque, enough power and are extremely comfortable while not too heavy. We will stay away from the highway, mostly riding two-lane roads that are very typical for Croatia and also Europe in general.

Day by day

Arrival day

1. Arrival day

Your guide will welcome you at the airport in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Depending on the arrival time, you can do some sightseeing or go straight to the hotel. As your bikes will be waiting for you at the hotel parking, we assume you won't resist doing a test ride, so we'll organize a nice little first ride, just to get friendly with the bikes. In the evening we will enjoy the traditional welcome dinner and we can discuss about the routes, bikes, itinerary etc.

Zagreb- Rovinj

2. Zagreb- Rovinj

After breakfast, we'll head southwest towards the County of Istria, actually one of the smallest counties, but for popularity it is definitely the prime tourist region in Croatia. Istria is also known as 'The Magical Land', and you'll see why. Visiting charming little places like Hum (the smallest city in the world), Buzet and Motovun, riding the extraordinary open roads, tasting traditional food and wines, makes this region an excellent way to start a journey..

Rovinj- Island Cres- Island Losinj

3. Rovinj- Island Cres- Island Losinj

Today we'll explore Istria a bit more, find beautiful beaches and after, head south towards islands Cres and Losinj. Short ferry ride will first take us to Cres, a highland with many bays and pebbly beaches drawing your attention from the narrow road. On our way down to Losinj, we'll pass along the Nature Park Vransko Lake known of its pure and drinkable water, and also have a great view on the whole Kvarner Bay. Opposite to the mountainous Cres, Losinj is like an oasis with its lushly green colors. Small friendly towns, symphony of colors and tastes are waiting on you there...

Island Losinj- Plitvice Lakes

4. Island Losinj- Plitvice Lakes

Day to remember. Starting in the morning from charming islands Losinj, Cres and Krk, we'll be enjoying the evening at beautiful romantic National Park Plitvice Lakes. First we'll catch a ferry from island Cres to island Krk, and show you the best of it. As Krk is really a historic city, we'll take a historic ride towards Baska, the most famous bay on the island. The sea there is so clear you won't be able to resist a swim. After, we'll ride over the Krk's bridge to the shore again, and while the guys are enjoying excellent twisty roads, the girls will be saying goodbye to the coast; we'll enter Lika, the area richest in natural heritage in Croatia.

Rest day Plitvice Lakes

5. Rest day Plitvice Lakes

There is nothing like fresh air in the morning! Plitvice Lakes, which is one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites, is truly one of the greatest natural wonders of Europe. We'll be walking around beautiful collection of waterfalls, gallery of lakes all connected by foaming cascades, and relaxing in the silence of forests. Our suggestion- after the National Park, we can take a short ride around the area, we know some good places, you won't regret it!

Plitvice Lakes- Dubrovnik

6. Plitvice Lakes- Dubrovnik

Today we continue our tip riding one of the best open roads in Croatia. Beautiful scenery and a mix of flat and mountain areas, the scent of sea as we'll be approaching the coast and finally, the way Dubrovnik welcomes you will be something to remember this trip by.

Rest day Dubrovnik

7. Rest day Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, in south Dalmatia region, is one of the nicest cities in Croatia. Stone walls and streets, marble-paved squares and Dalmatin's charisma is something you won't miss. Our suggestion is to take a boat trip to one of the nearest islands, or take a great ride to Montenegro with us, just to let the sun go down a bit before exploring the center of Dubrovnik and its history.

Dubrovnik- Island Hvar

8. Dubrovnik- Island Hvar

We'll ride our scenic coastal road up north towards the Island Hvar; and on the way we'll visit amazing attractions like Mali Ston, known for its longest defensive wall in Europe and also for the best oysters in Croatia; fabulous Neretva valley where you can buy the best oranges, watermelons and other fruit, fresh and cooled in Neretva water; and if you're still hot, we'll visit the highest peak of Biokovo mountain, sv. Jure at 1762 meters (1,05 miles)above sea. From there, the view of the whole Makarska and the surrounding islands can be seen, and if the sky is clear enough, you can even see the mountain Monte Gargano in Italy! A short ferry ride will get us to Island Hvar where we'll settle today in beautiful city Hvar- which centre is one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites.

Hvar - Zadar

9. Hvar - Zadar

After exploring some additional beaches on Island Hvar, a ferry will take us to Split where we’ll visit famous Dioklecijan'sPallace. Later on, we continue up north, again riding excellent coastal road, visiting Trogir, Sibenik and its famous bridge, 40 meters high, known for bungee jumping experience.. We'll end the day in Zadar, city in Croatia where the most beautiful sunsets in the world can be seen.

Zadar- Pag- Zagreb

10. Zadar- Pag- Zagreb

Definitely a great day for riding. This day is the day of curvy roads, excellent asphalt and scenic views. You'll enjoy every curve, going from coastal Croatia towards the interior, Karlovac and finally Zagreb in the evening. Since it is the last day for riding, most of the day we'll spent at the Adriatic coast, and after we take a swim in one of the hidden beaches along, see the sun going down against mountain Klek, we'll end this adventure in appropriate way- a special dinner will be waiting for us, and as this is in fact our final dinner, we'll have a good night talk about our impressions.
